As part of the work of the Learning Achievement Coalition – Oakland (LAC-O) the county Superintendents decided they needed to set aside focused time to continue their learning individually and as a regional leadership team of this important work. In the summer of 2009, the first annual LAC-O Superintendents Retreat was held. The retreat was a blend of speakers who had been involved in this type of work in a local district or state, facilitated dialogues, and decisions that helped provide direction for the work for all partners involved.
This year, superintendents were joined by their principals. Approximately 300 attendees joined together at Oakland Schools for two days of thinking and planning. Cathy Lassiter joined us to lead a discussion around effective instructional leadership.
